Villa Park

July 2002

PECS was responsible for the structural and foundation projects and for some specialties of eight buildings inserted in the Villa Park urbanization located in Amadora. These buildings have different occupations, four of them for housing and services, three for offices and services and one for parking. They all have three floors underground and between 5 and 8 floors high, except for the building destined to parking, which has three underground floors and one roof floor.

He was not only responsible for the development of the project but also for its coordination and for monitoring the respective administrative licenses.

Description

The structural solution involved the use of lightened fungiform slabs in office buildings and parking floors and solid fungiform slabs in residential buildings (except parking and commercial floors). These slabs work directly supported on pillars, beams and walls, which transmit the loads to the foundations. These, depending on the characteristics of the terrain, are made using shoes. The resistant cores are located in central areas of the building in order to allow a good behavior to horizontal actions.

Given that the excavation area is part of a developing urban area, being bordered to the north by the railway line and to the south and east by road, it was necessary to find an excavation solution that would minimize any interference and disturbances in the mentioned occupations. In this way, the excavation solution included slopes in stages in areas not adjacent to these transport infrastructures and peripheral containment through a reinforced concrete structure of the type “Berlin Wall”, with anchors and provisional struts , in the zones adjacent to those zones.
